Mechanical Engineer – RCS Trials

About the role

Join a small, specialised engineering team at Thales' Underwood Quarry site in Wells, providing Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurement services for the UK Ministry of Defence and industry partners. You will develop expertise in designing and building target support structures and range facilities for radar signature measurements.

Key responsibilities

• Understand RCS measurement requirements and translate them into mechanical designs.
• Assemble, modify and prepare customer assets according to detailed instructions.
• Operate the mechanical workshop, including spray coating with electrically conductive materials.
• Design, manufacture and install target support and handling structures.
• Prepare lifting plans and ensure safe handling of assets and equipment.
• Liaise with sub‑contractors on design and manufacture of support structures.
• Support RSM and RCS Engineers in measurement planning, data processing and bid preparation.
