Mechanical Engineer Surveyor – Lifting Equipment

About the role
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Surveyor specialising in lifting equipment to join a leading test, inspection and certification organisation. This home‑based position offers autonomy, a supportive diary management team and no mandatory overtime.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and certify lifting equipment and cranes (gantry, crawler, scissor lifts, MEWPs, excavators, forklift trucks) under LOLER & PUWER regulations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards.
- Manage your own client patch, diary and relationships.
- Provide technical advice and produce clear inspection reports.
- Operate within agreed inspection authorities and H&S standards.
- Deliver excellent customer service in a professional environment.
Required profile
- Practical experience maintaining, inspecting, servicing or repairing lifting equipment or cranes.
- Level 4 (HNC) or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or Level 3 with strong hands‑on experience.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Comfortable in customer‑facing roles.
- Backgrounds such as Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Crane Engineer, MEWP Engineer, Forklift/Plant Engineer, ex‑forces engineer, or existing Engineer Surveyor.
Required skills
- Inspection and certification of lifting equipment.
- Knowledge of LOLER regulations.
- Knowledge of PUWER regulations.
- Technical report writing.
- Use of inspection authority standards and health & safety procedures.
