Mechanical Engineer – Water / Wastewater

About the role

Egis is expanding its UK Water business and is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a fast‑growing, hybrid‑working team in London, Bristol or Manchester. You will work on high‑impact water and wastewater treatment projects, delivering sustainable and innovative solutions across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design packages from feasibility through detailed design for water and wastewater treatment schemes.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, technical notes, P&IDs, layouts, drawings and procurement documents under senior guidance.
• Size and select equipment such as pumps, pipework, tanks, valves, penstocks, screens, grit removal plant, odour control systems and lifting equipment.
• Participate in site visits, asset surveys and data‑collection activities with operators, suppliers and technology providers.
• Coordinate with process, civil/structural, architectural and construction disciplines.
• Support CDM/safety‑by‑design reviews, risk assessments, constructability checks and commissioning hand‑over.
• Utilise digital tools, spreadsheets, models and data analysis to improve design quality and efficiency.
• Deliver work within agreed scope, budget and programme, escalating risks early.

Required profile

• BEng/MEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 4 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
• Background in water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources or oil & gas sectors.
• Proven experience producing mechanical design deliverables such as calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, reports and drawings.
