Mechanical Engineer/Fitter – Field Based

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Fitter to join our client’s field services team based at the West Horndon branch in Essex. The role involves travelling to a variety of sites across the South East and the wider UK to maintain, repair and overhaul heavy‑engineering equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance, fault finding and repairs on pumps, turbines, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, coolers and other rotating assets.
• Use precision measuring tools such as micrometres, DTI devices and alignment equipment to assess condition and critical tolerances.
• Prepare detailed reports covering findings, condition assessments, actions taken and recommendations.
• Work independently on site and support planned projects or outages as required.
• Manage own schedule and ensure compliance with manufacturer standards and legislation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in heavy‑engineering sectors with strong rotating equipment knowledge.
• Hands‑on ability to service prime movers and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Clear, concise communication skills, both verbal and written.

Required skills

• Fault diagnosis and repair of pumps, turbines, valves, gearboxes and conveyors.
• Technical reporting and documentation.
• Experience in power generation environments and OEM pump/turbine equipment.
