Mechanical Engineering Assessor

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to transition from hands‑on work to a rewarding assessor role. You will support and evaluate apprentices pursuing Mechanical Engineering qualifications, helping them develop the skills needed for successful careers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct workplace assessments and progress reviews for engineering apprentices.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and feedback to learners.
• Collaborate with employers to ensure apprentices meet programme requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of assessment outcomes.
• Participate in full assessor training and obtain required qualifications.

Required profile

• Strong background in Mechanical Engineering, preferably as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Fitter or Technician.
• Level 3 qualification or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Desire to move into an apprenticeship support or assessor role.
• No prior assessing experience required, but a passion for helping learners succeed.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering knowledge and practical experience.

• Salary range £28,000‑£40,000 per year plus a £6,000 bonus.
