Mechanical Estimator – Commercial Projects

About the role

Our client in Maidstone is expanding its Projects/Contracts team and seeks a Mechanical Estimator to produce accurate cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects. You will work closely with engineers, contractors and suppliers to ensure bids are competitive and aligned with project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review project drawings, schematics and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates.
• Calculate quantities and costs for materials, equipment and labour.
• Prepare and submit bids, PQQ and ITT documentation.
• Coordinate with engineers, manufacturers and clients to clarify scope and requirements.
• Identify financial or operational risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Maintain up‑to‑date estimation records and documentation.
• Negotiate with suppliers to secure best pricing.
• Stay informed on industry techniques, material costs and market trends.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as an estimator or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and engineering principles.
• Excellent mathematical and analytical abilities.
• Proficiency with CRM software.
• Relevant higher‑level qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Experience with CAD (preferred) and SimPro (beneficial).
