Mechanical Fitter

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to carry out planned and reactive maintenance of fixed plant equipment at Imerys' Devon Ball Clays operations in Newton Abbot. You will work closely with supervisors and the maintenance team to ensure plant reliability and minimal downtime while upholding health, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on fixed plant equipment such as mills, conveyors, fans, filters and packaging systems.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Support installation, commissioning and modification of equipment.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, including access planning and shutdowns with plant supervisors.
• Order, manage and stock spare parts required for scheduled work.
• Record completed work and contribute to root‑cause analysis.
• Work in accordance with Imerys Safe Working Rules, maintaining clean and safe work areas and complying with EHSQ requirements.

Required profile

• Proven mechanical fitting experience in an industrial or processing environment.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Experience with planned maintenance and breakdown repairs.
• Strong health, safety and environmental awareness.
• Valid UK driving licence.

• Competitive salary up to £33,115.61 per year, DOE.
