Mechanical Fitter – Manual Machining & Tooling (IR35)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join a global engineering manufacturer’s Middleton facility on a 6‑month contract, with the possibility of extension or permanent placement. The role involves assembling, maintaining and refurbishing mould tooling while operating manual machine tools in a rotating double‑day shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, maintain and refurbish mould tooling.
• Operate manual milling, turning and radial arm drilling machines.
• Carry out mould changes and first‑article inspections.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Work within a rotating double‑day shift schedule with early finishes on Fridays.

Required profile

• Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3).
• Experience with mechanical fitting and manual machining in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in tooling refurbishment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
