Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well‑established manufacturing client in Wigan. The role combines mechanical expertise with electrical fault‑finding to keep plant equipment running reliably and efficiently. You will work Monday‑Friday, 6 am‑3 pm, on a permanent basis.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant machinery and equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns, perform fault finding and minimise downtime.
• Provide hands‑on mechanical support and, where required, electrical troubleshooting.
• Diagnose and resolve equipment faults quickly and effectively.
• Plan and complete preventative maintenance schedules.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Assist with equipment upgrades and continuous‑improvement projects.
• Manage contractors, ensuring safe and compliant work.
• Work closely with production teams to maximise equipment reliability.
• Support health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Source replacement parts and spares as needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within manufacturing, production, chemical or process environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance background with ability to perform electrical fault‑finding.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience with both reactive and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with production teams.
• Proactive, hands‑on approach to engineering maintenance.
