Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Manufacturing (Pontefract)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a manufacturing client in Pontefract. The role operates on a four‑on, four‑off shift pattern, providing essential support to keep automated machinery running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to reactive breakdowns on a wide range of automated equipment.
• Log and complete all maintenance tasks using the CMMS system.
• Troubleshoot mechanical systems, including pneumatics and hydraulics, and interpret P&IDs and schematics.
• Assist with mechanical plant upgrades and support continuous improvement projects.
• Prioritise workloads within the shift team to minimise downtime.
• Maintain safe working practices in line with company SHE standards.
• Provide sickness and holiday cover for the team when required.
• Use SCADA and HMI interfaces to monitor process conditions and aid fault finding.

Required profile

• NVQ/ONC Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Maintenance.
• Proven experience in a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer role within a manufacturing or automated environment.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical schematics, and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams.
