Mechanical Maintenance Inspector

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Inspector to join the team at Tunstead Quarry in Buxton. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability and safety of both fixed and mobile plant equipment within one of the UK’s largest quarry operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned inspections of fixed plant such as crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps, motors and gearboxes.
• Inspect mobile equipment, identify wear, defects and deterioration.
• Produce detailed inspection reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Support preventative, predictive and planned maintenance activities.
• Assist in breakdown investigations, root‑cause analysis and review maintenance work for quality.
• Participate in shutdowns, audits and statutory inspections.
• Maintain accurate records in the maintenance management system.
• Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency and safety.

Required profile

• Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance or a related discipline (or apprenticeship‑trained equivalent).
• Experience in quarrying, aggregates, mining, cement, manufacturing, recycling or similar heavy‑industrial environments.
• Strong focus on safety, proactive attitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with engineering and operations teams.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering knowledge.

• Use of CMMS or other maintenance management systems.
