Mechanical Project Engineer

About the role

1st Step Solutions is supporting a leading M&E contractor on a new commercial project in Central London, looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer. The role covers the full range of mechanical services, from technical documentation and installation planning to procurement, programming and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the technical accuracy of project development, including overseeing the supply and coordination of technical documentation, especially health and safety protocols.
• Take charge of mechanical services installation and coordinate with the BIM department to produce fully coordinated installation drawings for on-site installation or offsite manufacturing.
• Partner with the planner to set out work sequences, timelines and resource allocations agreed with the client.
• Review tender information such as design drawings, specifications and equipment schedules, and produce package scoping documents.
• Produce and manage programmes, and prepare project reports for the project manager.
• Manage procurement, value engineering and cost control, advising the project manager and quantity surveyor on variation costs.
• Coordinate installation and commissioning, including handover documentation (record drawings, test and commission records).
• Lead and issue meeting notes for technical and progress workshops, and review working drawings against specifications and ER documents.
• Develop a commissioning strategy and support quality and risk control across programme and commercial matters.

Required profile

• HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering or similar.
• CSCS, IOSH or SMSTS certification.
• Experience on M&E pharmaceutical projects, ideally with responsibility for full contract management.
• Able to accept responsibility and deliver project objectives on time.
• Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
