Mechanical Technician – Hospital Engineering

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join the engineering team at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. This permanent position works 36 hours per week on a structured schedule, with an on‑call rota to support hospital and community premises.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver routine and complex mechanical engineering maintenance across the hospital estate.
• Support the Mechanical Supervisor in planning and executing service tasks.
• Participate in an on‑call rota to respond to urgent mechanical issues.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety and NHS engineering standards.

Required profile

• Completion of a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship.
• Extensive hands‑on experience in mechanical maintenance within a healthcare or similar environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Valid UK driving licence.

• Mechanical maintenance of hospital engineering systems.
• Troubleshooting of complex mechanical equipment.
• Interpretation of technical drawings and schematics.
