Mechanical Technician

About the role

We are recruiting on behalf of an established chemical manufacturing business in Middlesbrough for an experienced Mechanical Technician. You will join a small, supportive maintenance team and play a vital part in keeping plant equipment safe, efficient and reliable.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical faults and respond to breakdowns promptly.
• Install, maintain and repair a wide range of mechanical equipment.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities.
• Record all maintenance work accurately in the maintenance management system.
• Assist with minor engineering and site‑improvement projects.
• Support general site maintenance tasks as required.
• Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation.

Required profile

• Completed apprenticeship in a mechanical engineering discipline.
• BTEC Level 3 Diploma, BTEC ONC or equivalent mechanical qualification.
• Proven experience maintaining industrial mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of centrifugal, vane and air‑operated diaphragm pumps.
• Experience with industrial valves, especially ball valves.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
• Team‑focused attitude and willingness to assist with general maintenance tasks.
