Mechanical Technician – £39,970 per year – Widnes

About the role

Gap Technical is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join a global manufacturing business at its Widnes facility. The role offers a competitive salary of £39,970 per year and a full‑time, Monday‑to‑Friday schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Design, select, install and maintain mechanical equipment.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and diagnose faults.
• Repair mechanical failures and undertake overhauls of rotating equipment.
• Participate in confined‑space, first‑aid and emergency‑response training.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives and on‑call rota for critical breakdowns.

Required profile

• Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in a mechanical discipline (NVQ Level 3 or C&G Apprenticeship).
• Good computer literacy and experience with preventive‑maintenance software.
• Working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
• Manufacturing background preferred; chemical‑industry experience optional.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, waste reduction).

Required skills

• Mechanical equipment design and installation.
• Preventive maintenance and fault diagnosis.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system knowledge.
• Metal and plastic fabrication, pipework and flange work.
• Steam boiler and air‑compressor plant operation.
