Mental Health Assistant – Newbury

About the role
This full‑time position supports young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a specialist school in Newbury. You will work directly with pupils, helping them manage emotions, develop coping strategies and engage positively with their education.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist students in regulating behaviour using consistent, evidence‑based approaches.
- Help pupils develop emotional awareness and coping techniques.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote resilience.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing learning environment.
Required profile
- Experience in education, psychology, youth work or care settings.
- Strong interest in mental health and child development.
- Ability to work compassionately with young people and support staff.
