Mental Health Assistant (Psychology Graduate) – Kidlington

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Mental Health Assistant to join a specialist school in Kidlington. Working alongside teachers, you will help students with anxiety and mental‑health challenges to engage fully in their learning day.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to students with mental‑health needs.
• Assist in delivering specific teaching techniques and reinforce therapeutic strategies set by the class teacher.
• Model healthy coping mechanisms and help students manage emotions throughout the school day.
• Collaborate with teachers to create a safe, engaging classroom environment.

Required profile

• Calm, compassionate and kind with a genuine desire to make a difference.
• Patient, resilient and able to handle challenging behaviours.
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures.
• Hold, or be willing to obtain, an enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Ability to support students in 1‑to‑1 or small‑group settings.
• Knowledge of basic therapeutic or behavioural techniques (e.g., calming strategies).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
