Metallics Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

iCOMAT is looking for a Metallics Manufacturing Engineer to lead the technical work in its Swindon CNC shop. You will turn customer enquiries into accurate quotes and then into production‑ready packages, supporting the company’s rapid growth in lightweight composite manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead manufacturing engineering input for quotations – process planning, cycle‑time estimation, tooling strategy, fixturing approach and cost build‑up.
• Create complete production documentation for awarded work, including routings, work instructions, setup sheets and inspection plans.
• Develop and optimise CNC programmes (3‑, 4‑ and 5‑axis milling, plus turning) for aerospace‑grade metallic components.
• Specify and procure cutting tools, fixtures and gauges to meet delivery and quality targets.
• Engineer and document tooling and jigs that support composite manufacturing operations.
• Drive continuous improvement on the shop floor – reduce cycle time, eliminate scrap and ensure first‑time‑right delivery.
• Act as the technical point of contact for customers on DFM feedback, technical queries and FAIRs.

Required profile

• Proven manufacturing engineering experience in a precision CNC machining environment, preferably aerospace or another regulated sector.
• Strong process planning, quotation and costing skills for machined metallic components.
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T and aerospace tolerances.
• Hands‑on experience with a CAM package such as Mastercam, NX CAM, Esprit or equivalent.
