Mid-level Software Engineer – Backend

About the role

Freetrade is looking for a mid‑level Software Engineer to join its Backend Engineering squad. You will help build and maintain a robust, scalable platform that powers investment decisions for thousands of UK customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality software within agreed timelines, proposing solutions and weighing trade‑offs.
• Deliver scalable and maintainable backend solutions using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Collaborate with the Product Manager to understand core features, KPIs and drive product development.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, respond to high‑priority incidents and know when to escalate.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong collaboration skills, openness to feedback and shared ownership of design decisions.
• Ability to tackle complex, unfamiliar problems with a clear, methodical approach.
• Attention to detail and a genuine interest in the investment/fintech space.
