Mission Systems Team Lead

About the role

We are looking for a Mission Systems Team Lead to head a group of systems engineers at Astroscale UK. The role will drive the development of space system concepts from early design through to delivery, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and project milestones.

Key responsibilities

• Define mission concepts, requirements and timelines based on stakeholder input and mature them into deliverable systems.
• Lead trade‑off analyses and make decisions that balance performance, risk, cost and schedule.
• Oversee design baseline and change management throughout the system lifecycle.
• Coordinate with project managers, leadership, customers and suppliers to reach consensus on critical technical issues.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks at mission and system levels.
• Provide line management for 6‑8 engineers, including task planning, performance reviews and career development.
• Assess skill and head‑count gaps and work with management to address resourcing needs.
• Support recruitment activities and, when required, contribute to technical engineering work.

Required profile

• Strong systems‑thinking ability with experience in defining and delivering complex engineering solutions.
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non‑technical audiences.
• Patience and perseverance in navigating organisational and project challenges.
