Mobile Catering Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a Mobile Catering Assistant to support our school meal programmes across primary and secondary schools in the Colchester area. You will travel to sites during term time, preparing and serving nutritious meals while upholding the highest standards of food safety and safeguarding.

Key responsibilities

• Travel to primary and secondary schools to provide catering support as required.
• Assist with food preparation, cooking and serving meals to children.
• Uphold food handling and hygiene standards at all times.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations throughout the workday.
• Receive, check and organise supplier deliveries.
• Carry out washing‑up duties and maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen and dining area.
• Represent HCL and reflect company values in every interaction.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Full, valid driving licence with business insurance, valid MOT and road tax.
• Access to your own vehicle.
• Reliable, punctual and a strong team player.
• Desire to develop a career in school catering.

Required skills

• Food hygiene level 2 certification (preferred).
• Knowledge of key allergens (preferred).
• Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

What we offer

• £12.71 per hour (£9,088 per annum).
• Mileage reimbursement at 45p per mile.
• 16.25 hours per week – no weekends, no late nights.
