Mobile Plant Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mobile Plant Engineer to join a leading plant‑hire and earthworks contractor operating across Scotland and Northern England. The role involves maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, ensuring reliable performance for civil‑engineering and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform servicing, maintenance and repairs on excavators, dump trucks, dozers, loading shovels, rollers and similar equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on site and in the workshop.
• Respond to breakdowns at customer locations throughout Scotland, providing timely solutions.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and regular inspections.
• Complete service reports and maintenance documentation to company standards.
• Maintain a safe working environment and uphold high quality standards.
• Work independently while delivering excellent customer service.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Plant Engineer, Mobile Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Engineer or a closely related role.
• Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding abilities.
• Hands‑on experience with excavators, dump trucks, dozers, loading shovels, rollers or similar heavy plant.
• Good knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and diesel‑engine systems.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to manage own workload and work autonomously.
