Mobile Plant Maintenance Fitter

About the role
The Mobile Plant Maintenance Fitter will ensure that all mobile plant and equipment used in surfacing operations are inspected, serviced, maintained and repaired to maximise availability and reliability. Working across multiple sites, the role supports surfacing squads by minimising downtime and maintaining high safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on pavers, rollers, planers and related machinery.
- Diagnose and repair faults in hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns to limit operational downtime.
- Inspect and service equipment, record defects and recommend repairs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports and service documentation.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental legislation and company procedures.
- Perform pre‑delivery inspections and prepare plant for operational use.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with forepersons, surfacing supervisors and operational teams.
- Manage van stock, tools and equipment for call‑outs.
- Support out‑of‑hours breakdown cover when required.
Required profile
- Essential NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing mobile plant, construction equipment or heavy vehicles.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and communicate effectively with operational teams.
Required skills
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
