Multi-Skilled Engineering Chargehand

About the role

The Multi‑Skilled Engineering Chargehand will lead maintenance activities at Imerys’ Rocks Dryer site in St Austell, supporting a range of fixed plant and processing equipment. This permanent, hands‑on position ensures plant availability through planned and reactive work while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to breakdowns across crushers, rollers, dryers, mills, conveyors and packaging systems.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
• Coordinate work handovers, support shutdown planning, sequence tasks, order materials and manage contractor activities.
• Maintain and update a shared, prioritised maintenance plan, adapting to operational priorities.
• Provide on‑call support to other Cornwall sites during shift hours.

Required profile

• Hands‑on engineering background with experience in industrial plant maintenance.
• Strong focus on health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Ability to lead a team, coordinate with operations, engineering colleagues and external contractors.
• Flexibility to adapt schedules to production demands and participate in shutdowns.
