About the role
We are looking for a Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician (Articifer) to join our Maintenance and Engineering team in St. Helens. The role involves hands‑on maintenance of a wide range of mechanical and electrical plant equipment within a glass fibre manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical breakdowns, reviewing drawings and redesigning where necessary to minimise downtime.
- Maintain and repair gearboxes, belts, sprockets, conveyors, drive shafts, ovens, spools, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and related equipment.
- Create, modify and review risk assessments and standard operating procedures in line with policy and legislation.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on plant, services, distribution and alarm systems.
- Perform live electrical work up to 415 V, including live‑working tasks.
- Document maintenance activities, manage spare‑part processing and storage records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives such as performance optimisation, 5S housekeeping, energy reduction and environmental impact mitigation.
- Supervise apprentices, trainees and contractors.
- Coordinate projects and maintain maintenance documentation and drawings.
- Participate actively in health and safety activities to identify and eliminate hazards.
Required profile
- Completed engineering apprenticeship, qualified to HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong safety awareness and experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods following standard procedures.
