Multi Skilled Operator – Waste Management

About the role

The Multi Skilled Operator will join Biffa’s waste management team in Rotherham, working on a rotating shift pattern to load, sort, and process waste using mobile plant machinery. The role supports the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and ensures compliance with environmental permits and municipal contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile plant equipment (forklift, telehandler, loading shovel, ro‑ro, tug) to load and sort waste.
• Assist with clearing MRF plant blockages and perform cleaning tasks as needed.
• Follow QHSE policies, report close calls and incidents, and conduct regular site audits.
• Maintain accurate stock control and reporting of contract and non‑contract waste.
• Provide light maintenance of equipment and support the site supervisor with maintenance reviews, cost control, and KPI monitoring.
• Ensure high standards of housekeeping and health & safety compliance.

Required profile

• Previous experience operating mobile plant machinery.
• Knowledge of MRF operations.
• Willingness to study for a Level 2 City & Guilds Qualification in Sustainable Waste Management.
• Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Strong communication skills across all organisational levels.
• Full UK driving licence.
