New Business Commercial Underwriter – Hybrid (Leeds)

About the role

We are looking for a New Business Commercial Underwriter to join our fast‑growing specialist underwriting business. This hybrid role combines remote work with one day per week in our Leeds office, allowing you to manage commercial new business while building strong broker relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and administer new business risks within delegated authority limits.
• Produce accurate, compliant documentation throughout the underwriting process.
• Proactively follow up on risks and maintain high technical decision‑making standards.
• Continuously develop technical skills, underwriting licence and product knowledge.
• Deliver underwriting quality in line with the Quality Control framework and meet productivity targets.
• Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
• Contribute to business development, growth and change initiatives.
• Ensure all activities comply with group, service and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Construction‑focused underwriting experience.
• Preferably holds a CII certification.
• Deep specialist market and product knowledge.
• Solid understanding of the legal and regulatory insurance landscape.
• Confident communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Proactive approach with a balance of technical accuracy and commercial decision‑making.
