Night Scout – Street Lighting Inspector

About the role

We are looking for an Inspector (Night Scout) to join our Birmingham Interim Services Contract team in Aston. In this role you will help keep Birmingham’s streets safe and well‑lit during the night, working independently while supported by a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct night‑time driven surveys of the network to identify faults in street lighting and illuminated traffic signs.
• Accurately record and raise jobs for electrical asset defects using handheld technology.
• Support planning and operations teams with follow‑up inspections to ensure assets function properly.
• Process and raise jobs from public enquiries efficiently.
• Report urgent defects promptly to the Operational Control Room to safeguard public safety.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence and comfortable driving at night.
• Knowledge of highways electrical assets and how they operate.
• HEA 210 and HEA 210.1 (G39) qualifications desirable (training provided).
• Confidence using technology, including interpreting maps and spatial data.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail.
