Non-Executive Director

About the role

The Royal Free London is seeking two experienced Non‑Executive Directors to join its board and help shape the strategic direction of the Trust. As a senior board member you will work alongside the executive team, providing independent challenge, insight and support to ensure the Trust delivers high‑quality patient care and meets its long‑term objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in board committees covering finance, digital services, workforce, or patient safety and experience.
• Contribute to setting strategic priorities, standards and the Trust’s shared commitments.
• Engage with staff, patients and external partners through the ‘go see’ programme and other outreach activities.
• Ensure compliance with the provider licence, governance codes and relevant legislation.
• Support effective decision‑making, constructive debate and maintain high standards of corporate and clinical governance.

Required profile

• Board‑level experience in a senior leadership role within the public or private sector.
• Proven track record of leading and transforming large organisations with substantial budgets.
• Ability to balance short‑term priorities with long‑term strategy.
• Strong financial acumen and experience delivering cost‑efficiency programmes.
• Experience in large‑scale digital transformation (healthcare experience desirable but not essential).
