Nuclear HVAC System Design Engineer

About the role

The Nuclear HVAC System Design Engineer will lead the design and development of nuclear‑grade HVAC and chilled water systems for the Reactor Island at a new nuclear power facility in Warrington. Reporting to the Manager for Reactor Island HVAC Systems, you will ensure that all designs meet functional, environmental, safety and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and mature system concepts for nuclear‑grade HVAC and chilled water systems.
• Produce robust design documentation, safety justifications and performance assessments aligned with nuclear codes and E3S objectives.
• Identify and resolve technical issues, maintaining high quality and safety standards.
• Collaborate with system owners, safety case teams, structural engineers, plant operations and supply‑chain partners to progress designs.
• Support progression of safety‑critical HVAC systems and contribute to potential discipline‑manager advancement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HVAC system design for high‑risk or nuclear environments.
• Strong understanding of nuclear safety codes, regulations and best practice.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and safety cases.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to obtain BPSS clearance, DBS Basic check and financial probity verification.
