About the role
We are seeking a nurturing Nursery Teaching Assistant to join our specialist provision in Ware. The setting supports children and young people aged 5‑11 with autism and complex learning needs, offering a low‑stimulus environment that encourages early‑year development regardless of chronological age.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils working at an early‑years developmental level.
- Assist the lead teacher in planning and delivering tailored activities that meet each learner’s needs.
- Monitor and record progress, helping to adapt learning resources as required.
- Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support health, communication, and behavioural goals.
Required profile
- Previous experience in a nursery environment or specialist SEN setting.
- Confidence working with children who have autism and additional learning difficulties.
- Empathetic, adaptable, and child‑centred approach.
- Commitment to removing barriers to learning and communication.
Required skills
- Understanding of early‑years developmental milestones.
- Knowledge of autism‑friendly strategies and sensory regulation techniques.
