Nursery Teaching Assistant – Specialist Setting (Ages 5‑11)

About the role

We are seeking a nurturing Nursery Teaching Assistant to join our specialist provision in Ware. The setting supports children and young people aged 5‑11 with autism and complex learning needs, offering a low‑stimulus environment that encourages early‑year development regardless of chronological age.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils working at an early‑years developmental level.
• Assist the lead teacher in planning and delivering tailored activities that meet each learner’s needs.
• Monitor and record progress, helping to adapt learning resources as required.
• Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support health, communication, and behavioural goals.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a nursery environment or specialist SEN setting.
• Confidence working with children who have autism and additional learning difficulties.
• Empathetic, adaptable, and child‑centred approach.
• Commitment to removing barriers to learning and communication.

Required skills

• Understanding of early‑years developmental milestones.
• Knowledge of autism‑friendly strategies and sensory regulation techniques.
