Office-Based Genealogy Researcher – Wigan

About the role

This office‑based position involves conducting genealogical research for a fast‑growing company in Wigan. You will build family trees, locate records and support legal and client teams with accurate historical information.

Key responsibilities

• Research family histories using online databases, manual records and archive visits.
• Interview relatives and other sources to gather personal insights.
• Order, review and verify certificates, deeds and other supporting documents.
• Update solicitors, public sector contacts and beneficiaries as required.
• Assist with ancillary searches such as divorce, probate and wills.
• Support case managers in preparing family‑history reports, including hand‑drawn and computer‑generated trees.
• Perform general administrative duties and collect certificates from the General Registry Office.

Required profile

• Degree‑educated and highly organised.
• Excellent communication skills with a professional telephone manner.
• Ability to manage large workloads and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong attendance record and punctuality.
• Proven team‑player who can collaborate effectively.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft systems.

• Salary £25,000‑£28,000 per year.
