Official Solicitor & Public Trustee – Fixed‑Term Civil Litigation Lawyer

About the role

The Official Solicitor’s Civil Litigation team provides legal representation for children and adults lacking capacity, acting as a litigation friend across a wide range of civil cases in the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, as well as tribunals and the Parole Board. This fixed‑term role involves managing complex litigation, supervising case managers and maintaining a personal caseload.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and review the work of case managers.
• Manage and oversee complex civil litigation cases, including those before senior courts and tribunals.
• Act as litigation friend for vulnerable parties and instruct external solicitors.
• Provide legal advice to judges, subject‑matter experts and other stakeholders.
• Maintain a varied personal caseload alongside team responsibilities.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience.
• Not eligible for CILEX Fellows.

Required skills

• Civil litigation expertise.
• Knowledge of court procedures in County, High, Court of Appeal and Supreme Courts.
• Legal research and advice provision.
• Case management and supervision.
