Open Water Lifeguard – Supervise Swimming & Paddlesports

About the role

We are seeking an Open Water Lifeguard to join our team at Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt. The role combines water‑safety supervision with delivering a welcoming experience for participants in open water swimming and paddlesport activities.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise open water swimming sessions and related watersport activities.
• Monitor participant safety, respond to incidents and emergencies promptly.
• Carry out safety checks, set up and maintain equipment before each session.
• Support paddlesport programmes as required.
• Provide first‑class customer service and handle enquiries.
• Assist with cleaning, preparation and upkeep of equipment and activity areas.
• Work collaboratively with the team to uphold health, safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• A can‑do attitude with a strong focus on customer service.
• Passion for water‑based activities and enthusiasm for community wellbeing.
• Good knowledge of health and safety principles.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience in open water swimming, paddlesports or similar water activities.
• Confidence working in and around open water environments.

Required skills

• Open Water Swimming Lifeguard qualification (or willingness to obtain).
• Swim Safety Rescue (SSR) qualification.
• Relevant paddlesport qualifications and experience.
