About the role
The Operational Risk Support Officer will lead and support the collection of risk information for a wide range of properties across Surrey. The role provides station‑based support to fire crews, ensures the quality of completed risk records, plans and allocates site visits, and delivers training to operational personnel under the powers of the Fire Services Act.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support staff in completing operational risk and intelligence records.
- Gather, verify and store risk information for all property types.
- Provide assurance of completed work and plan/allocate site visits.
- Train operational personnel on risk‑gathering processes and use of relevant data systems.
- Engage with business owners, partners and external stakeholders to share and collect risk data.
- Assess hazards associated with firefighting operations and advise crews on mitigation measures.
Required profile
- Current competent Firefighter (Crew Commander, Watch Commander or equivalent) with operational fitness.
- Ability to work flexibly, including hybrid working across Woodhatch Place, Reigate and fire safety offices.
- Hold or be willing to obtain IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- Clear DBS clearance, fitness test and medical clearance.
- Proven experience leading diverse teams, managing changing priorities and communicating with internal and external partners.
