Operations Controller

About the role

The client in Crawley is seeking an Operations Controller to work 12‑hour shifts on a 4‑on‑4‑off roster (07:00‑19:00). This hands‑on, customer‑facing position manages live logistics activity, ensuring seamless service outside standard office hours, including weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate air, road, and sea freight movements to and from the UK, covering cross‑trade shipments from booking to final delivery.
• Monitor live shipments, proactively handling exceptions, delays, and escalations.
• Maintain accurate job files and record all activity in the internal job management system.
• Provide clear, structured handovers at the end of each shift.
• Act as the primary operational contact for assigned customers during the shift.
• Communicate with customers, partners, airlines, shipping lines, hauliers, and internal teams.
• Update customer track‑and‑trace portals and deliver milestone updates via email or agreed reporting channels.

Required profile

• Proven experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations (air, road, and/or sea).
• Strong customer‑service mindset with confidence handling time‑critical, high‑pressure situations.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Competent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
