Operations Manager – Gas Distribution Site

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day‑to‑day activities at our cylinder gas distribution site in Stalbridge. The role involves overseeing drivers and administrative staff, ensuring safe and compliant delivery of gas products, and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and manage site‑based staff, including drivers and administrators.
• Plan and execute efficient delivery schedules to maximise driver and vehicle utilisation.
• Ensure full compliance with HSE regulations, transport legislation and internal safety policies.
• Oversee cylinder stock, cash and asset reconciliation processes.
• Promote a “right first time” and safety‑first culture across site operations.
• Maintain site facilities in line with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
• Act as the site emergency call‑out keyholder, attending out‑of‑hours incidents.
• Develop and deliver training, conduct performance reviews and support staff development.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance service and efficiency.

Required profile

• CPC in Transport Management (essential).
• ADR certification or experience handling hazardous goods.
• Proven people‑management or leadership experience, preferably in logistics or service‑focused environments.
• Strong knowledge of current transport regulations, working time directive and tachograph laws.
• Experience in a management or supervisory role.
• Understanding of employment legislation and HR practices.
• Confidence using IT systems and software.

Required skills

• CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management.
• ADR (Accord Dangereux Routier) certification.
• Safety qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH (preferred).
• Proficiency with IT systems and software.
