Operations Manager

About the role

Our client, a family‑owned distributor of high‑quality plumbing and drainage products, is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join the senior leadership team. This hands‑on role will own the warehouse and transport functions, driving efficiency, accountability and exceptional customer service while supporting future growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day warehouse and transport operations, managing operatives, drivers and the company fleet.
• Improve processes, increase efficiency and implement new systems and technologies.
• Manage warehouse performance, stock accuracy, inventory control and KPI reporting.
• Recruit, train, review performance and, when necessary, discipline the warehouse team.
• Oversee transport planning, fleet management and delivery scheduling to maximise productivity.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, operational procedures and transport regulations.
• Own workforce planning and operational systems, including Connecteam, Sage 200, MaxOptra and future automation projects.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and streamline manual processes using technology and AI.
• Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, communication and continuous improvement.
• Hold or obtain the Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and support transport function development.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years senior warehouse or operations management experience.
• Strong background in warehouse, logistics and transport management.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high‑performing teams.
• Excellent knowledge of stock control, warehouse systems and KPI management.
• Experience managing rotas, workforce planning and operational scheduling.
