Operator & Ground Worker – Civil Engineering

About the role

This full‑time, on‑site position is based in Scotland and involves operating plant and machinery safely and efficiently on civil engineering projects. You will work alongside site supervisors and colleagues to deliver high‑quality groundworks, road, drainage and utility installations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators, dumpers, rollers and other groundworks equipment in line with site plans.
• Prepare and maintain work sites, including excavation, backfilling, and compacting materials.
• Assist with laying pipes, ducts, concrete and aggregates for roads, drainage and utilities.
• Conduct basic equipment checks, report hazards or defects, and follow health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Maintain a tidy, organised work environment and support project timelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating construction plant and machinery.
• Practical knowledge of groundworks tasks such as excavation, backfilling and pipe laying.
• Strong awareness of health‑and‑safety practices, manual handling and PPE use.
• Ability to read basic site drawings or instructions and work to measurements.
• Valid CSCS card; CPCS or NPORS plant operator tickets are highly beneficial.
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across Scotland.
