Optical Colleague – Part‑time Retail Optical Assistant

About the role

Join ASDA Optical in Bishop Auckland as a part‑time Optical Colleague, supporting customers through every stage of their eye‑care journey. You will work alongside qualified opticians, helping to prepare patients for examinations, dispense spectacles and contact lenses, and ensure a friendly, professional in‑store experience.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare customers for eye examinations and explain each stage of the test.
• Conduct pre‑screening examinations and book follow‑up appointments.
• Dispense spectacles and contact lenses, perform repairs, adjustments and verification.
• Manage stock receipt and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Provide advice on product selection and address customer queries with warmth and confidence.

Required profile

• Friendly, customer‑focused attitude with strong organisational skills.
• Ability to work flexible days, evenings and weekends as required.
• Willingness to undergo enhanced safeguarding checks and be over 18 years of age.

Required skills

• Good computer literacy for retail systems.
• Basic optical dispensing knowledge (spectacles, contact lenses).
• Ability to perform contact lens fitting and removals.
