Outside Operator

About the role

Veolia is seeking an Outside Operator to join the team at Chilton Power Station in Durham. You will play a key part in managing wood deliveries, supporting chemical and ash operations, and ensuring site safety while contributing to a sustainable future.

Key responsibilities

• Manage wood delivery reception at the weighbridge and guide vehicles to the receiving station.
• Enforce the site traffic safety plan and all Health & Safety policies.
• Process and maintain documentation for deliveries.
• Operate the walking floor system for wood unloading.
• Handle telescopic equipment for skip management.
• Operate mechanical shovel/Bobcat for cleanup operations.
• Support chemical deliveries and ash loading operations.
• Perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties, including additional tasks as assigned.
• Undertake additional duties within the boiler plant and ancillary equipment as trained.

Required profile

• Trained and experienced Vehicle Banksman with a strong focus on safe working practices.
• Experience or willingness to be trained in chemical deliveries to bulk storage tanks.
• Confidence in completing routine mobile plant checks and basic maintenance tasks.
• Logical, practical approach to daily tasks and problem solving.
• Proactive attitude to learning and developing new skills.
• Evidence of applying training and on‑the‑job learning to improve performance.
• Willingness to maintain and look after machinery and equipment.
• Flexible team player ready to take on additional responsibilities as qualified.
