P401 Asbestos Analyst

About the role

Amentum's Chemistry and Radioanalytical Solutions business is recruiting a P401 qualified Asbestos Analyst based in Birchwood, Warrington. The analyst works with a team of technicians, analysts and senior scientists, serving national and international clients, including operational and decommissioning sites. The role supports the Delivery Lead in maintaining laboratory preparation activities and improving laboratory standards, and promotes a positive quality and safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse asbestos bulk and soil samples using polarised light microscopy (PLM)
• Identify asbestos fibre types in line with HSG248 guidance
• Record and report analytical findings accurately, within agreed turnaround times
• Ensure compliance with UKAS standards, HSE guidance and laboratory procedures
• Produce accurate reports and certificates of analysis
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment
• Assist with general laboratory and office-based duties
• During periods of lower sample throughput, be cross-trained in other areas of the business

Required profile

• BOHS P401 qualification
• Significant experience in asbestos bulk identification and/or asbestos in soil analysis
• Strong understanding of HSG248 and analytical techniques
• Excellent attention to detail and report-writing skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Desirable: BOHS P408 qualification, UKAS-accredited laboratory experience, knowledge of asbestos testing in environmental and contaminated land samples
