Painter & Decorator – Modern & Heritage Buildings

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Painter & Decorator to join our works team in Cambridge. You will deliver high‑quality decorating across a diverse portfolio of modern, historic and listed buildings, ranging from 15th‑century structures to contemporary developments.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by sanding, filling, cleaning and priming various substrates.
• Apply emulsions, gloss, varnishes and specialist coatings to internal and external surfaces.
• Install wallpaper, specialist wall coverings and decorative finishes.
• Carry out sensitive restoration and redecoration of heritage and listed buildings using traditional materials such as lime‑based paints and distemper.
• Work on modern refurbishment projects employing contemporary materials and spray techniques.
• Comply with health and safety legislation, including COSHH and Working at Height regulations.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and keep tools and equipment in good condition.
• Support apprentices or junior team members and record work accurately.

Required profile

• Proven experience in painting and decorating both modern and historic buildings.
• Ability to interpret specifications and drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
