Part‑time Company Accountant / Bookkeeper (3 days/week)

About the role

Our client, a high‑end interior design studio in Hungerford, is seeking a part‑time Company Accountant/Bookkeeper to lead the finance function three days a week. The role moves beyond basic bookkeeping to provide strategic financial insight for luxury residential projects delivered locally and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, analyse and present monthly management accounts to the Managing Director, monitoring project profitability and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Oversee the sales ledger and credit control, managing complex client invoices, retainer deposits and design fees.
• Maintain the purchase ledger, reconciling trade suppliers, artisans and specialist contractors, and allocate costs to client budgets.
• Process international supplier payments, manage multi‑currency transactions and mitigate foreign‑exchange risk.
• Ensure statutory compliance, including quarterly VAT returns (with margin scheme considerations) and CIS submissions.
• Act as the primary liaison with external accountants, delivering audit‑ready year‑end trial balances and schedules.

Required profile

• Professional qualification – CIMA, ACCA, ACA or senior AAT/QBE.
• Experience in a similar SME finance role, preferably as the sole finance professional.
• Proven track record handling international payments, foreign‑currency accounts and import duties/VAT.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Xero accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
