Part‑time Legal Cashier (21 hrs/week)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established law firm in Chelmsford, is looking for a part‑time Legal Cashier to join its dynamic accounts department. Working 21 hours per week, you will handle financial transactions within a legal environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide efficient cash‑handling and accounts services to partners and staff, complying with Solicitors Accounts Rules.
• Manage daily banking activities, produce cheques, and process CHAPS and BACS transfers.
• Handle client and office cheques, petty cash, and same‑day electronic transfers.
• Post and reconcile invoices from HM Land Registry, Companies House, and other suppliers.
• Process credit‑card payments and perform daily/monthly bank reconciliations for client, office, VAT and tax accounts.
• Prepare and submit the firm’s VAT returns and manage company expenses.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience as a Legal Cashier or in a professional services environment.
• Strong time‑management and communication skills, able to work with all levels of staff.
• Team‑player attitude with a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero or Sage.
• Good understanding of accounts‑payable processes and financial record‑keeping.
