Part‑time Military Medical Examiner (GP)

About the role
We are seeking a qualified GP to work as a Military Medical Examiner for the Ministry of Defence on a part‑time basis. The role involves assessing the medical fitness of Royal Navy and Marine applicants across four UK bases.
Key responsibilities
- Review full GP records of Navy/Marine candidates to identify any medical issues that could affect entry.
- Conduct face‑to‑face interviews and full‑body examinations (excluding private areas) to gather further information.
- Make fitness‑to‑serve decisions or refer complex cases to senior Navy doctors.
- Complete required documentation and communicate outcomes to applicants.
- Participate in occupational health meetings and maintain accurate records.
- Work onsite at the designated naval base and declare any conflicts of interest.
Required profile
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and an active record of CPD.
- Experience in primary care and competence in conducting comprehensive medical examinations.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and adhere to high clinical standards.
- Willingness to travel to one of the four on‑shore Royal Navy/Marine bases.
Required skills
- GMC registration.
What we offer
- Pro‑rated salary of £60,000 per year for three days per week (full‑time equivalent £100,000).
- Part‑time contract until April 2027.
