Part‑Time Teaching Assistant (TA2) – Reception ASD Support (Makaton)

About the role
We are looking for a part‑time Teaching Assistant (TA2) to support a Reception‑aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a primary school in Morecambe, starting September 2026. The role runs term‑time only, Monday to Friday, 8:45 am‑12:00 pm, and focuses on using Makaton to facilitate learning and social interaction.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities.
- Use Makaton to support communication and learning.
- Build positive relationships with the pupil, teaching staff and parents.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to adapt lessons and provide individualized support.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to the pupil’s progress monitoring.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting children with ASD.
- Strong, confident use of Makaton in an educational setting.
- Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, pupils and families.
- Legal right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo DBS and reference checks.
