Pastoral Assistant – Secondary School (Harrow)

About the role

Join a welcoming secondary school in Harrow as a Pastoral Assistant, supporting the personal, social and emotional development of students in Key Stages 3 and 4. You will work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding staff and senior leaders to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pastoral support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Build positive relationships to enhance wellbeing, confidence and engagement.
• Assist students facing social, emotional, behavioural or attendance challenges.
• Collaborate with Heads of Year to implement support plans and interventions.
• Support behaviour management through restorative conversations and positive strategies.
• Liaise with parents/carers regarding wellbeing, behaviour and attendance concerns.
• Work with safeguarding, SEND and external agencies as required.
• Supervise students during unstructured times such as break and lunch.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and support activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in a secondary school, youth work or mentoring setting.
• Commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families and staff.
• Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies.

Required skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational abilities for record‑keeping and monitoring.
• Capability to work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams.
