Pastoral Support Leader – Alternative Provision School

About the role

The school is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Leader to work one‑to‑one with secondary‑aged students (11‑18) who are struggling in mainstream education. You will help them address personal and behavioural challenges, with the aim of reintegrating them into their original schools.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual pastoral support to students, exploring background issues affecting learning.
• Collaborate with teachers, SEN specialists and external agencies to develop tailored support plans.
• Monitor progress and adjust interventions to promote positive outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and produce regular reports for stakeholders.
• Contribute to the overall wellbeing strategy of the Alternative Provision setting.

Required profile

• Passion for supporting young people through difficult life events.
• Experience working with SEN or pastoral care in an educational context.
• Calm, empathetic demeanor with the ability to build trust quickly.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of partners.

Required skills

• Understanding of behavioural and emotional issues affecting learners.
• Ability to assess and develop personalised support plans.
• Report writing and documentation skills.
