Pastoral Support Worker – Maternity Cover

About the role
This is a fixed‑term maternity cover position for a Pastoral Support Worker in a vibrant 11‑19 secondary school in East London. You will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff and external agencies to improve student well‑being, behaviour and attendance.
Key responsibilities
- Support the school’s reset room and manage challenging behaviour.
- Mentor key students and deliver targeted pastoral interventions.
- Lead small‑group behaviour support programmes and restorative processes.
- Maintain high standards of attendance, attitude and overall school culture.
- Investigate incidents, take statements and contribute to safeguarding records.
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers and external agencies.
- Provide pastoral support during break times, lunchtimes, detentions and enrichment activities.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Pastoral Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or similar in a secondary school.
- Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
- Calm, resilient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to develop positive professional relationships with young people.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proactive attitude towards safeguarding and student well‑being.
Required skills
What we offer
- Competitive salary between £28,550 and £33,529 per annum.
- Fixed‑term contract from September 2026 to March 2027 (36 hours per week, term‑time only).
